Thompson Christmas Letter December 2014

Merry Christmas from the desert!

Life has been busy and full at the Thompson home this year. We count our blessings every day and find joy in the simple things. Here is a little of what we have been up to this year…

Eli Gabriel (3) turns 4 this month, and what did he ask for? Bubble wrap! He went to preschool for a few months (did great!)  and enjoyed being in the Sunbeam class at church. He keeps his parents on their toes with his quick wit and sense of humor– never a dull moment around this kid – and had his first stitches when he split his lip open in May. He loves to dress up as super heroes, ride his big boy bike, and eat Nutella. He also has a knack for singing, detailed drawing, and cleverness. Dad affectionately calls him “Mini Me,” but much to his chagrin, he is still a mama’s boy. He argues his points like the best of the Thompson men and is quite the little charmer anywhere we go. He loves learning about the world, people around him, and longs to grow “big” like his dad and brothers.

Alexander Phillip (13) will be 14 in February. This year he worked as a volunteer Jr. Lifeguard at a city pool, swam on the city swim team, surpassed his mom and brother in height, earned his Life rank in Boy Scouts, experienced the ‘Order of the Arrow’ ordeal after being nominated at scout camp, played soccer on the school team (with jersey #17 like his mom!), helps with book layouts and acquisitions reading for Rook Publishing, and sings in the school choir. He even had a solo in a concert, which he rocked! In October he had a cardiac ablation for his progressive SVT (which unfortunately made him miss basketball tryouts - frowny face). He loves long boarding, bike riding, the gifted program at school, spending time with his friends, and playing around on the piano. He currently serves as the Deacon’s quorum president at church, the assistant patrol leader in scouts, and occasionally as baby-sitter extraordinaire at home.

Enoch Maxamillion (16) turns 17 in April. His business, Amicus Yard Services, has been flourishing, allowing him to save money to serve a church mission. He swam on the school swim team (has an amazing “legal” butterfly stroke!), and he sings in the school men’s choir (though he misses his ceramics class where he learned he is an amazing sculptor). He also joined the DECA club at school, is loving his French class, designed a seminary t-shirt, went on his first hunt with Grandpa Thompson, does graphic design work for Rook Publishing, and is quite the little chef and baby-sitter at home (which mom LOVES). He loves longboarding, singing, cooking, building things, and swimming. He had the opportunity to go on a high adventure scout camp this summer and also the Generation IX Hemophilia camp in Oregon (first plane ride!), and excitedly started prophylactic infusions to accommodate his active life. He is working towards his Eagle Project in scouts and currently serves as the Priest quorum secretary at church.

Michelle Elizabeth feels like life is a whirlwind nowadays. She works full-time as the managing editor for Rook Publishing (and also takes care of all the “office” stuff), as chauffeur for the boys (though Max driving has lessened this job!), as a domestic engineer, and as the ward Primary president (which she loves, along with the women that serve with her!). In her rare spare time, she enjoys making cards and custom invitations, homemade gifts, and sewing super hero costumes for Eli. She is also trying to make time to complete her 4th novel (a fantasy), which she thinks will end up as a series. She loves playing the piano, photography, editing novels, and taking care of her sweet and active family.

Enoch Sean’s workload has tripled this year with the success of Rook Publishing. He works as the editor in chief and oversees all things graphic design, IT, accounting, marketing, and everything else! He has managed to find a way to work around his complex migraines and his cluster headaches, and even finds time to serve as the 2nd counselor in the bishopric at church. He was able to go with the older scouts on their high adventure trip this year, and has found it difficult to find time to work on the sequel to his Envy of the Lightbringer novel (Urusan science fiction series). He enjoys using his homemade BBQ grill, singing, building things, home improvement and fixing broken things, and being his own boss!

We hope that this year has brought happiness and joy to your family and we wish you a very Merry Christmas and a blessed New Year!
